England U21 Parking at Ashton Gate: Portugal and France, November 2026

TL;DR — There is no general public parking at Ashton Gate for the England Under-21 double-header, so the nearest pre-bookable spaces are at Matchday Parking at The Clanage, Clanage Road, Bower Ashton BS3 2JX — a 7 minute walk, £17.50 per car. Both matches kick off at 7.30pm and the car park opens at 4.30pm. The Clanage sits outside the Bristol Clean Air Zone, so arriving from the A370 you will not pay the £9 daily charge. Only 200 spaces are released per match.

Is there parking at Ashton Gate for the England U21 matches?

No. Ashton Gate has no general public parking on matchdays, and that does not change for international fixtures. The on-site spaces go to permit holders, hospitality guests and accessible bay bookings arranged in advance through the stadium.

For an England Under-21 game the stadium’s own advice has historically been blunter than that. When England last played at Ashton Gate, supporters were strongly advised not to drive at all, and the official park and ride shuttles sold out before matchday with none available on the gate.

That advice is aimed at people who have not arranged anything. Turning up at Bower Ashton hoping for a legal kerb is a bad plan on a Friday or Monday evening. Walking seven minutes from a staffed, pre-booked car park is a different proposition entirely.

Both England U21 fixtures at Ashton Gate

England play two home matches in the November international window, three days apart, both at Ashton Gate and both at 7.30pm. They are preparation matches ahead of next summer’s UEFA Under-21 EURO finals, which is why the opposition is this strong.

Vans are £25.00 and minibuses £50.00 for either match. All four vehicle types are available for both fixtures at the time of writing, which is not always the case — on the Wales autumn internationals in Cardiff the van and minibus spaces went first.

Worth knowing if you are following England through the whole November window: the senior side play Croatia at Wembley on Thursday 12 November, the night before the Portugal game. We cover that one in our Wembley parking guide for England internationals.

Why this is cheaper than a Bristol City or Bristol Bears matchday

£17.50 is below the standard Ashton Gate rate. Bristol Bears fixtures at the same car park are £19.99 per car this season, and league football is priced the same way.

Two things to be aware of. The first is that the £17.50 is the advance price and prices rise closer to the event, so there is no advantage in waiting. The second is the 200-space cap. An England international draws from a much wider area than a Championship home game, and a Friday night fixture against Portugal with 20 per cent off a two-match ticket bundle is exactly the sort of game that sells well late.

The Monday night game is the harder of the two

France on Monday 16 November is a weekday evening kick-off. A 7.30pm start means approaching Ashton Gate through Bristol’s evening peak, and the A370 and Brunel Way corridor into Bower Ashton is slow from about 4.30pm onwards.

That is the reason the car park opens three hours before kick-off rather than two. Arriving at 5pm and walking into town for something to eat costs you nothing; arriving at 7pm on a Monday may well cost you the first ten minutes of the match.

What happened the last time England U21 played here

The Under-21s last used Ashton Gate on Tuesday 15 October 2024, against Azerbaijan in a European qualifier, also a 7.30pm kick-off. It is a useful dress rehearsal for November.

For that match the stadium ran official park and ride shuttles with First West of England from Portway Park & Ride, Brislington Park & Ride and Temple Meads, departing between 5pm and 7pm and dropping on Winterstoke Road. They sold out in advance and could not be bought on the day. Brunel Way was closed from the Jessop Underpass towards the A4 Portway later that evening.

Arrangements for the November fixtures have not been published yet, so treat that as precedent rather than fact. The practical lesson stands either way: on an England night at Ashton Gate the official options go early, and anything you have not locked in beforehand may not be there on the day.

Does the Bristol Clean Air Zone affect you?

Possibly, and Bristol is stricter than most people expect. Unlike Bath, Bristol operates a Class D Clean Air Zone, which does charge private cars that do not meet emissions standards.

  • Non-compliant cars, vans, taxis and minibuses: £9 a day
  • Non-compliant coaches, buses and HGVs: £100 a day
  • Motorcycles: no charge

A vehicle is compliant if it is Euro 4 petrol or later, broadly registered from 2006, or Euro 6 diesel or later, broadly from late 2015. Electric and hydrogen vehicles are exempt. The zone runs 24 hours a day, enforced by number plate cameras, and not paying when you should results in a Penalty Charge Notice of £120 plus the charge, reduced to £60 if paid within 14 days.

The good news is that The Clanage sits outside the zone, with the Clanage Road roundabout marking one of its southern entry points. Arriving from the A370 you reach the car park without crossing into the charging area. That only holds for the approach, though. If your route takes you through central Bristol first you have already entered the zone that day and the charge applies regardless of where you eventually park. Coming from the M5 and the south-west you avoid it entirely.

Getting there without a car

Parson Street is the closest station, about a 15 minute walk, though it has no step-free access. Bristol Temple Meads is roughly a 50 minute walk, so plan on a bus or a shuttle from there rather than walking it in November.

Bus routes 24, X1, X4, X6, X7 and X8/9 serve the area, mostly stopping at Blackmoors Lane, Ashton Bridge or Ashton Road. If the stadium confirms park and ride shuttles for these fixtures, book them as soon as they appear rather than relying on buying on the night.

Why not to park on the street

The residential streets around Ashton Gate — Ashton Road, Duckmoor Road, Luckwell Road and the terraces off North Street — are residents’ permit zones, enforced on matchdays. Supermarket car parks nearby operate time limits well short of a football match plus the walk either side, and are camera-enforced.

Frequently asked questions

What time does the car park open for the England U21 games?

How far is the car park from Ashton Gate?

The Clanage on Clanage Road, Bower Ashton is a 7 minute walk from Ashton Gate Stadium. The what3words location is ///ranch.wash.wacky.

Do I have to pay the Bristol Clean Air Zone charge?

The Clanage sits outside the Clean Air Zone, so arriving from the A370 you do not cross into the charging area. If your route takes you through central Bristol first, the charge applies for that day regardless of where you park. Non-compliant cars pay £9 a day; most vehicles from 2006 petrol or late 2015 diesel onwards are compliant.

Are the England U21 matches at Ashton Gate friendlies?

Yes. Both games are preparation matches ahead of next summer’s UEFA Under-21 EURO finals rather than qualifiers. England play Portugal on Friday 13 November 2026 and France on Monday 16 November 2026, both at 7.30pm.

How much are match tickets for England U21 at Ashton Gate?

The stadium has listed adult tickets at £15 and concessions for over-65s and under-19s at £7.50, with discounts for Bristol City season ticket holders and members, and 20 per cent off for anyone buying both games. Tickets are sold through the stadium, not through us — we only sell the parking.

Can I leave my car at the car park overnight?

No. There is no overnight parking at the site and gates lock one hour after the final whistle. For a 7.30pm kick-off that means collecting your car by around 10.30pm.
